Black Mermaid’s Moonscars is an interesting mix of soulslike combat and platforming mechanics. The game is being developed for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, and it’s set to arrive on September 27.

A new launch trailer has been released this week, which shows more combat sequences and a few of the bosses. In Moonscars, every death is a step forward, as players must overcome every challenge the game throws at them.

Players take the role of Grey Irma, a clayborne warrior, and must push their combat skills to the limit, as well as master new abilities to progress through an unforgiving nonlinear 2D world. You’ll be fighting against the relentless, destructive darkness and cruel mistress of the Moon, and your quest is to find the Sculptor and unravel the mystery of your existence.

The game promises to feature many of the soulslike combat mechanics, as you’ll be able to slash and parry with your sword. Also, the game includes unique special weapons, and a magic system called Witchery.

However, its visuals is one of the aspects that set Moonscars apart from other soulslike titles. The game is completely painted in grey and red to match the gloomy, dark atmosphere and the brutal combat sequences. It’s also a great way to depict a world marred by despair and desperation.

If you’re into soulslike games and believe that you have the necessary skills and reflexes to prevail, you’re in for quite a ride, as Moonscars promises a strange, dark fantasy take filled with twists and intricate worldbuilding. Not to mention that for every new piece of the puzzle you unearth, you’ll be rewarded generously.

Moonscars won’t be out until September 27, but feel free to add the game to your Steam wishlist if you plan to play it on PC rather than console.
