The policy hasn't been implemented, it's just a statement

The U.S. reversed its decision regarding Huawei, and it looks like American companies are going to be able to sell their products to the Chinese hardware maker once more.

A couple of months ago, The United States announced that Huawei would be put on the Entity List, which basically meant that American companies were forbidden to do business with them. The first to follow this directive was Google with Android.

Other companies soon followed suit, like Intel and Qualcomm. The impact on Huawei business was severe, and it will take a long time for the Chinese company to recover. Even with the ban lifted, it’s very likely that they will continue to develop their parallel solutions to counter Android and the hardware.

The decision to put the company on the Entity List was the result of a long-lasting battle, which, at its core, is pretty much about the race to build the next 5G network. In any case, for a while, it looked like Huawei was doomed, but the recent decision might put it back on track.

According to Android Authority, president Donald Trump commented during the G20 summit that it’s taking place now, in Osaka. “U.S. companies can sell their equipment to Huawei. We’re talking about equipment where there’s no great national security problem with it. I said that’s O.K., that we will keep selling that product, these are American companies that make these products. That’s very complex, by the way. I’ve agreed to allow them to continue to sell that product so that American companies will continue.”

Of course, things are much more complicated than Trump makes them out to be. For one, China and The United States are now trying to work out a new trade agreement, and it’s possible that Huawei was one of the points of contention.

Also, American companies such as Intel or Qualcomm were making a lot of money by selling their products to Huawei. Not being able to sell to them was dealing a heavy blow to the American companies as well.

Lastly, we have to keep in mind that this is an off-hand remark made by Trump during a summit; it’s not something that is already in effect. As it stands right now, Huawei is still on the Entity List, and it will be a while until the ban will be lifted, if at all. There is always the possibility that president Donald Trump will not keep his word.
