Microsoft co-founder currently using the Galaxy Fold

As the Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates can obviously afford pretty much any smartphone out there. But of course, you’d expect him to use a device made by the company he created, and right now, the only choice would technically be the Surface Duo.

In an AMA session on reddit, Gates admits that he’s indeed using Android, and not an iPhone. So in theory, he’s a step closer to the Surface Duo.

However, the device of his choice is actually Samsung’s Galaxy Fold3, which also comes with a foldable form factor. Gates explains he’s trying “different ones,” probably referring that he already knows very well what the Surface Duo can do, so he’s now experimenting with devices from other companies.

“I have an Android Galaxy ZFold3. I try different ones. With this screen I can get by with a great portable PC and the phone and nothing else,” Bill Gates said.

The world still misses Windows phones

There was a time when Microsoft had its very own mobile platform, but we all know how the whole thing came to an end.

Windows 10 Mobile was completely abandoned, and together with it, the devices that were running the platform, including Microsoft’s very own Lumia lineup, got the ax. Unfortunately, Microsoft has now become completely committed to the Android world, so the chances of ever seeing the company rolling out another mobile platform to compete with Google and Apple are extremely slim.

In the meantime, you’d better not expect a new Surface Duo this year. Rumor has it that a new device version is projected to launch at some point in 2023, though for the time being, nothing has been officially confirmed.

If anything, the Surface Duo 2 is the best Microsoft has to offer right now in terms of Android devices, and without a doubt, it’s a super-premium product that’s worth trying.
