And it’s all because of the pre-installed software

Microsoft no longer has its own mobile platform, as Windows 10 Mobile is already dead and everything, so naturally, company executives and employees can now choose between Android and iPhone as they wish.

As far as Microsoft founder Bill Gates is concerned, Android is the better option because it allows him to “keep track of everything.” So no, Gates isn’t using an iPhone, but an Android device, as he explained in a meeting on Clubhouse, the conversation app currently available on iOS exclusively.

“I actually use an Android phone. Because I want to keep track of everything, I'll often play around with iPhones, but the one I carry around happens to be Android,” he said.

A Samsung Galaxy S21 maybe?

So why is Bill Gates so much in love with Android? It seems it all comes down to the pre-loaded software and how Microsoft apps can be part of the entire experience.

“Some of the Android manufacturers pre-install Microsoft software in a way that makes it easy for me. They're more flexible about how the software connects up with the operating system. So that's what I ended up getting used to. You know, a lot of my friends have ‌iPhones‌, so there's no purity,” he said.

Most likely, Bill Gates is using a Samsung smartphone, as the South Korean company is one of the top Android device manufacturers currently offering Microsoft software as pre-loaded. Skype, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and OneDrive, all come pre-installed on Samsung’s flagships, and needless to say, this allowed Microsoft itself to sell these devices in the Microsoft Store in the first place.

Surprisingly, Bill Gates may not be using the Surface Duo, Microsoft’s very own Android device that’s already on the market with a dual-screen form factor. The Duo is Microsoft’s big bet in the Android world, with a new version likely to launch later this year featuring major hardware upgrades.
