If you’re still looking for third-party antivirus protection and don’t know which product to choose, the security researchers over at AT-TEST have conducted a new study to determine the best solution for Windows 10.

And the results come with a few surprises. The research conducted in September and October 2018 put nearly the same security products on the leading positions.

For example, the maximum rating of 18 points goes to Avira Antivirus Pro, Bitdefender Internet Security, BullGuard Internet Security, Kaspersky Internet Security, Microworld eScan Internet Security Suite, and Symantec Norton Security.

Certainly, you wouldn’t expect apps from BullGuard and Microworld to match the performance of top security vendors like Kaspersky and Bitdefender, but according to AV-TEST, all these products gained six points for each of the three tests evaluating protection, performance, and usability.

Windows Defender’s performance

The worst performance is also unexpected, as Malwarebytes Premium got the lowest score in this round of antivirus test. The app scored just 4 points for protection, 5 points for performance, and 4.5 points for usability, with a final rating of 13.5 points. It was also the security product with the lowest score for the malware protection it offered during the tests.

When it comes to performance, G Data InternetSecurity was the application that couldn’t keep up with the others, gaining just 4 points in this research. For usability, PC PItstop PC Matic got only 3.5 points.

As far as the default protection system in Windows 10 is concerned, the performance is once again impressive. Windows Defender, which comes by default enabled in Windows 10, got a total score of 17 points thanks to 5.5 points for protection, 5.5 points for performance, and 6 points for usability.

It’s the second time Windows Defender gets super-close to the top security products on the market, and if the same trend is maintained, it could become a leading solution in the coming months.
