14 DAY TRIAL // Antivirus testing organization AV-TEST has performed a new study to determine the best Windows 10 security solution for business users, after the group previously ran similar research for home users.
There are almost no surprises in this new round of antivirus tests, as the same already-famous security products are leading the pack once again.
Bitdefender Endpoint Security, Kaspersky Endpoint Security and Small Office Security, as well as Trend Micro Office Scan got the maximum 18 points, with flawless performance in each of the three tests for protection, performance, and usability.
Bitdefender Endpoint Security Elite, Microsoft Windows Defender, Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, Symantec Endpoint Protection and Endpoint Protection Cloud also performed particularly well, getting an overall score of 17.5 points out the maximum of 18.
Windows Defender performance
Of particular highlight is the performance of Windows Defender, which just like in the case of home users, matched the one of third-party security products.
Windows Defender received 6 points for protection, 5.5 points for performance, and 6 points for usability, becoming one of the best security products in the latest research.
It blocked 100 percent of the 0-day and already-known forms of malware, while also generating only a minor slowdown on systems where it was activated – Windows Defender comes installed by default in Windows 10, but it is automatically disabled when third-party protection is installed; when a security product is removed, Windows Defender is re-enabled by Windows 10.
Furthermore, Windows Defender also excelled in terms of usability, offering no false warnings of blockages when visiting websites and also generating no false positives for legitimate software during system scans.
The security product getting the lowest score in this new round of antivirus tests was Palo Alto Networks’ Traps, which received only 15 points after obtaining 4.5 points for protection, 5.0 points for performance, and 5.5 points for usability.
