And yet, no launch delay is likely, analyst says

We’re only approximately one month away from the moment when Apple will officially take the wraps off the new iPhone 12, and the closer we get, the more information about the device reaches the web.

This time, however, it’s not a technical detail but a tidbit related to the production process of the new iPhone, as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that the an Apple supplier discovered a manufacturing defect on the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

More specifically, Genius Electronic Optical conducted a series of high temperature and high humidity tests and noticed that some iPhone 12 models come with cracked coatings on the camera lenses.

Only two models are reportedly affected, and the good news is that this is unlikely to cause a launch delay. And it’s all because Apple is already prepared for this scenario, with Largan also serving as a supplier for the same components, with no such issues experienced whatsoever.

Four iPhones coming this year

This is one of the reasons Apple is always seeking more than one supplier for iPhone components, as the company can thus rely on a second company should it come across any production issues with a specific part.

Apple is expected to launch four different iPhone models this year, all featuring 5G connectivity. The base model will be a 5.4-inch iPhone, sold alongside two 6.1-inch versions, one of them a direct successor to the iPhone 11 while the other will be an upgraded iPhone 11 Pro.

The top-of-the-range will be the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which will be a direct successor to the iPhone 11 Pro Max and which will be upgraded to a display measuring 6.9 inches. Pricing is likely to remain largely similar to the one of the iPhone 11 lineup, albeit the 5.4-inch model could be a little bit more affordable given its smaller screen.
