14 DAY TRIAL // Avira has recently released its very own patch to resolve issues on Windows 7 and Windows 10 after installing the April 2019 Patch Tuesday updates.
Microsoft confirmed in late April that users installing a series of antivirus products, including Avira security software, could experience various issues, including devices freezing on boot.
“Microsoft and Avira have identified an issue on devices with Avira antivirus software installed that may cause the system to become unresponsive upon restart after installing this update,” the software giant said. The issue was only confirmed on Windows 7 and 8.1 devices.
As a result, Microsoft blocked devices running the impacted security products from getting the botched updates, saying it was working with vendors to release patches.
Avira patch now available
Avira rolled out a fix on April 29, but the company says that in addition to Windows 7, Windows 10 is impacted as well. The latest cumulative update for version 1809, or October 2018 Update, could thus cause similar issues on devices with Avira antivirus. This update installs as KB4493509.
The patch is now being offered to systems running Avira and is automatically installed, according to the security vendor.
“We have looked into the issue that you described, where the system slows down after a Windows update, and have found a way to fix it. We have recently released an update that should fix this issue. Your Avira Product will be automatically updated, and you don’t have to do anything else in the product,” an updated advisory reads.
“If you have uninstalled the incompatible Windows Update, you can now restore it using the Windows Update function.”
Microsoft is yet to update the KB articles to indicate that Avira patches are available. The company also hasn’t acknowledged antivirus issues after installing the latest cumulative update for Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
