A new Arch Linux install medium has been released, Arch Linux 2018.08.01, for those who want an up-to-date ISO image to install one of the most acclaimed and lightweight GNU/Linux distributions on their personal computers.

Arch Linux 2018.08.01 is an up-to-date installation medium of the popular Linux-based operating system, incorporating all the software updates and security patches released throughout July 2018, since the Arch Linux 2018.07.01 ISO release, and a new kernel version, namely Linux 4.17.11.

Linux 4.17.11 is currently the most advanced stable kernel there is, at the moment of writing, and it is recommended for all Arch Linux users, as well as for users of other GNU/Linux distributions if they're able to install it from the official software repositories of their favorite operating systems.

However, like previous ISO snapshots, Arch Linux 2018.08.01 is targeted only at users who plan on reinstalling their Arch Linux computer because of whatever reason or deploy the operating system on new machines and don't want to download hundreds of updates from the repositories after the installation.

Arch Linux 2018.09.01 will ship with Linux kernel 4.18

The next ISO snapshot of the Arch Linux operating system, which follows a rolling release model where users install once and receive updates forever, will be Arch Linux 2018.09.01, which will ship with a brand-new kernel, Linux 4.18, due for release on August 12, 2018. Meanwhile, you can download Arch Linux 2018.08.01 right now.

With that in mind, existing Arch Linux users don't need to download the new ISO snapshot to keep their installations up-to-date, but only to make sure they have all the latest security and software updates installed. To update your Arch Linux installations, run the "sudo pacman -Syu" command in a terminal emulator and reboot.
