New rumor points to triple camera coming to iPhone

There’s a lot of speculation concerning Apple’s upcoming iPhone trio due in September this year, but as it turns out, some people are more excited about what’s to come to the market in 2019.

Because according to several analysts, the next-year iPhone lineup is very likely to be a lot more exciting than the models seeing daylight in a few months, as Apple is planning substantial upgrades like a triple-lens camera on the back.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about an iPhone coming with three cameras on the back, but a report coming from the Economic Daily News claims this is indeed happening on the 2019 generation.

While it goes without saying that such information should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism, Apple stepping to three cameras on the iPhone does make sense, especially given the company’s efforts to improve the performance of its cameras.

Full focus on AR

Huawei has already launched the P20 Pro with such a camera configuration earlier this year, so at some level, Apple following the same path wouldn’t be very surprising.

What’s not clear, however, is the purpose of this three-camera configuration. A third lens on the iPhone could do anything from offering enhanced optical zoom to providing support for AR/3D content generation.

The latter scenario seems more likely following Apple’s investments in AR and its ongoing projects that could also include AR glasses coming in 2020 or 2021 the latest.

No matter if Apple wants to go with two or three cameras on the 2019 iPhone, everything can change overnight, as this is a project that’s far from being finalized.

There are rumors that Cupertino is still pondering some big upgrades for the 2018 generation, so even if the company is planning in advance and is already thinking of three-camera systems, such a decision can’t be made overnight.
