A new smartwatch was announced by Apple today

Apple has officially announced the all-new Apple Watch Series 7, and once again, all the leaks that have been swirling around the web lately proved to be false.

This is because the new smartwatch comes without the substantially refined design everybody wanted, as all the rumors out there suggest this could be the first major overhaul since the debut of the Apple Watch many years ago.

And it’s all because the Cupertino-based tech giant has decided to wait a little bit longer before it gives up on the curved edges and instead go for flat sides inspired by the iPhone 12 (and now the iPhone 13, as the new model has been announced today alongside the Apple Watch Series 7).

Again, this was supposed to be the biggest redesign since launch, and to be honest, the Apple Watch Series 7 looked really good with those flat sides in the renderings that have been making the rounds lately. Some say it reminds of the iPhone 4, which isn’t necessarily wrong, as this particular iPhone model was the first one to introduce the straight edges.

Smaller upgrades under the hood

This year’s Apple Watch makeover is mostly about the subtly refined design with the same curved edges but with smaller bezels. Many wonder, however, if Apple giving up on the flat edges is a decision made at the very last minute, as recent reports indicated that Apple partners have actually struggled with various production challenges due to this change.

Pricing for the Apple Watch Series 7 starts at $399, with the device to be available in the following colors: midnight, starlight, green, blue, and red.

Clearly, Apple has focused mostly on the looks this year, so the under-the-hood upgrades are rather subtle. There’s obviously an improved processor and more optimizations, but without a doubt, the new Apple Watch Series 7 is just a small facelift overall.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is once again in two different sizes, namely 41mm and 45mm, and thanks to smaller bezels, they feature a substantially increased screen estate.
