When it launched, Apple Watch Series 4 was a real game changer for the wearables industry, as it introduced features that others are still struggling as we speak to bring to their devices.

The ECG sensor, for example, which helps create an electrocardiogram and thus help detect atrial fibrillation early, is now available for Apple Watch Series 4 users in several countries after previously going live in the United States exclusively.

But the new Apple Watch isn’t only about new features, but also about the hardware that it comes with.

And according to The Society for Information Display, it sports one of the best screen technologies in 2019, so the Apple Watch Series 4 is one of the three products receiving the “Display of the Year” award.

“While retaining the original signature design, the fourth-generation Apple Watch has been refined, combining new hardware and software enhancements into a singular, unified form,” the organization says in an announcement.

“The challenge for designers was to make the display bigger without noticeably increasing the size of the case or compromising the battery life. Narrower borders enable a viewing area that’s more than 30 percent larger, while a new display technology called LTPO improves power efficiency, helping users get through the day on a single charge.”

The two products that received the Display of the Year award are Samsung Electronics’ Modular MicroLED Display (The Wall) and Sony Corp.’s Crystal LED Display System.

Meanwhile, Apple has every reason to be pleased with the Apple Watch. The Cupertino-based tech giant was the number one wearable device company in 2018 with total shipments of 16.2 million units, way ahead of number two Xiaomi which sold 7.5 million units. Huawei and Fitbit are far behind with 5.7 million and 5.7 million units sold in 2018, respectively.
