Apple announced today a new iPod touch device that comes with some notable enhancements to offer users a more modern iPod that is no longer dedicated to playing music.

Coming four years after the 6th generation iPod touch, Apple's new iPod touch is powered by a powerful A10 Fusion chip, which not only improves the performance of the device when playng games, but, for the first ever, it introduces support for unimaginable AR (Augmented Reality) experiences and Group FaceTime support. It also comes with a new 256GB capacity option so you store all your favorite songs.

"We’re making the most affordable iOS device even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, Group FaceTime and augmented reality starting at just $199. The ultra-thin and lightweight design of iPod touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go," said Greg Joswiak, Vice President of Product Marketing at Apple.

Apple Music and Apple Arcade support, price and availability

Not only the new iPod touch will support offline listening through the Apple Music music streaming service, but it'll also support Apple Arcade, Apple's upcoming game subscription service that promises to give users access to more than 100 new and exclusive games that they can download and play offline, thanks to the latest iOS 12 operating system and the A10 Fusion chip.

Apple's new iPod touch comes in six variants, including Space Gray, White, Pink, Blue, Gold, and (PRODUCT)RED. You can order new iPod touch right now from apple.com or via the Apple Store app for $199 USD for the 32GB model, $299 USD for the 128GB model, and $399 USD for the 256GB model. It will also be available in Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Resellers later this week.
