Apple announced today an upcoming video subscription service called Apple TV+ that promises to give users access to exclusive original content from Hollywood's biggest names.

During its "It's Show Time" special event that took place earlier today, Apple announced its long-anticipated video streaming service called Apple TV+, a paid video subscription service that gives users access to exclusive and original content from world’s most acclaimed artists, including Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston, Jason Momoa, Reese Witherspoon, and others.

"We’re honored that the absolute best lineup of storytellers in the world — both in front of and behind the camera — are coming to Apple TV+," said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "We’re thrilled to give viewers a sneak peek of Apple TV+ and cannot wait for them to tune in starting this fall. Apple TV+ will be home to some of the highest quality original storytelling that TV and movie lovers have seen yet."

Revamped Apple TV app comes to Mac, smart TVs, Roku, and more

Apple also announced today during its special event that it has revamped the Apple TV app to make it the home of all your digital content, from TV shows and movies to news and sports, across all of your devices, including Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, Mac, smart TVs, and select media boxes. Additionally, Apple introduced a new feature for the Apple TV app called Apple TV channels, which will give users instant access to all of their subscribed channels.

With Apple TV channels, customers will be able to subscribe to their favorite TV channels, such as HBO, Showtime, Starz, CBS All Access, EPIX, Smithsonian Channel, Tastemade, and many others from within the Apple TV app, which will organize, personalize, and manage all of their content without them switching between apps. The revamped Apple TV app promises to support more than 150 streaming apps and pay-TV services.

The Apple TV+ video subscription service will be available in fall 2019 for Apple TV users. The revamped Apple TV app and Apple TV channels service are coming in May 2019 for Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Samsung smart TVs in more than 100 countries via software updates, as well as to Amazon Fire TV, Roku, as well as smart TVs from LG, VIZIO, and Sony with AirPlay 2 support in the coming months.
