We’ve known for a while that Apple was working on a new-generation iPhone SE, and according to a new report, the company is now getting ready to start the trial production of this device.

Needless to say, this is a sign that the debut of this new model is just around the corner, as Apple typically requires suppliers to launch the trial production in an attempt to determine any potential issues that would need to be fixed before the mass production starts.

The “all-new” iPhone SE 3

Apple’s new iPhone SE plays a very important role in the company’s long-term strategy, especially as the company is getting ready to kill off the mini model.

Previously, people familiar with the matter said Apple wanted the iPhone SE 3 to adopt the look of the iPhone XR, therefore coming with a larger screen and Face ID.

The current iPhone SE uses the iPhone 8 design, so it also sports Touch ID thanks to a home button below the screen.

And while the switch to the iPhone XR body makes sense, it looks like Apple isn’t yet willing to do this, possibly in an attempt to keep the iPhone SE on a smaller form factor. In other words, the iPhone SE will continue to be based on the iPhone 8, therefore still boasting Touch ID and a 4.7-inch screen, which more or less makes sense given the 5.4-inch iPhone mini is going away.

However, the Cupertino-based tech giant will continue to focus on under-the-hood improvements, so the new SE will most likely feature 5G support and improved cameras.

The debut of the device is projected to take place in the first months of 2022, most likely in March or April. The pricing is expected to be similar to the one of the current model.
