Gravitation is a custom tweak “setting your icons free”

The jailbreaking community has been providing us with a plethora of interesting tweaks for an unlocked iPhone, but on the other hand, Apple has almost never brought these ideas to production devices running the standard version of iOS.

One of the customizations that should really make their way to the iPhone is called Gravitation and what it does is actually quite simple: it creates a gravity effect for the icons on the home screen, technically allowing them to fall on one side depending on the orientation of the iPhone.

Gravitation works on a jailbroken iPhone with a simple shake that activates and deactivates it. It supports all versions of iOS that can be unlocked at this point, albeit users on reddit have already come across a series of issues that need to be fixed in future updates.

For example, Gravitation appears to experience some compatibility bugs with other applications, with some icons sometime disappearing, at which point an iPhone respring is the only way to go.

Jailbreaking an iPhone

It goes without saying this isn’t possible unless you jailbreak the iPhone, and unless Apple brings such customizations to the device, which obviously is very unlikely, the chances to ever do this on a standard iPhone are extremely slim.

While some say that the days of jailbreaking iPhones are over, there are still lots of users out there not updating to the latest iOS version hoping that someone would come up with a new method to unlock their devices and play with all these customizations that wouldn’t be possible without removing Apple’s walled garden.

Most often, jailbreaks for the latest iOS versions do not exist, and the majority of methods to unlock iPhones typically concern previous operating system versions. So if you do want to join the jailbreak fun, you know what you have to do.
