Apple is expected to focus heavily on AR and VR at the upcoming WWDC conference, and with the developer event just around the corner, a new job ad has been spotted hinting at possible new projects that Cupertino might be working on in this regard.

Apple is hiring a 3D UI Frameworks Engineer for the Technology Development Group (TDG), which according to the company itself should “help build frameworks that will drive the next generation of interactive experiences for our platforms.”

Headset coming in 2020 or 2021

According to 9to5mac, there’s a good chance that this job ad is related to Apple’s augmented reality headset, a project that the company is believed to be working on and which could see daylight in 2020 or 2021 the latest.

“Apple’s UI frameworks define the look and feel of our software and products. You will have the opportunity to build software that directly impacts the way both developers and customers interact with our products. You will work with some of Apple's most advanced technologies including the Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) support offered in ARKit and Metal 2,” Apple explains in the job ad.

No specifics were provided, but instead, Apple is expected to drop new hints at WWDC, or at least discuss AR improvements that could offer us a closer glimpse into the way the company sees this particular technology evolving on its products.

Apple says in the job opening that candidates must already have 5 years in software development and experience working on developer-facing frameworks or libraries, as well as in developing latency-critical, interactive, UI software.

There’s a good chance that Apple will remove this job ad in the coming days, so we’ve taken a screenshot and attached it to this article just in case it goes dark all of a sudden.
