Apple has finally updated its App Store statistics page to inform application developers about the current adoption rate of its latest iOS 12 mobile operating system.

According to Apple's App Store statistics page, the iOS 12 mobile operating system that the company released not even a month ago is now being used on more than half of the supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices available on the market. To be more precise, iOS 12 now runs on 53% of all devices introduced in the last four years.

Compared to last year's iOS 11 release, the iOS 12 mobile operating system saw a better adoption among iPhone and iPad users, and that's probably because of the performance improvements it brought for older devices like the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6, making them a bit faster and more responsive.

These statistics were measured by the App Store on October 10, 2018, based on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices introduced since September 2014, which were signed into the App Store during the respective period. The chart also shows that 40% of devices still use iOS 11 and 7% of them use an older version.

iOS 12.1 will boost the adoption

Sometime next month, Apple will release the first major update to its iOS 12 mobile operating system, version 12.1, which is currently in beta testing phase. We believe iOS 12.1 will boost the adoption among iPhone and iPad users as it promises more than 70 new emoji characters, as well as the group FaceTime feature.

Meanwhile, Apple just released the first minor bugfix update, iOS 12.0.1, which addresses a couple of issues for iPhone XS owners, as well as other annoyances reported by users since the release of iOS 12 last month. All these minor updates will boost iOS 12's adoption, which we hope to be higher than last year's iOS 11.
