As measured by the App Store on May 31, 2018

Just five weeks after the last update, Apple refreshed its App Store statistics page to inform iOS application developers about the current adoption rate for its latest iOS 11 mobile operating system.

iOS 11 was officially unveiled last year on June 5 during the keynote presentation at WWDC 2017, and it was released worldwide on September 19, 2017. In mid-January 2018, Apple told developers that iOS 11 is already running on 65 percent of supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, seeing a growth of 11% from October 2017.

Three months later, on April 22, 2018, Apple updated its App Store statistics page to inform devs that iOS 11 is running on 76 percent of supported devices, seeing a whopping growth of 11 percent. And now, about a month later, Apple said at WWDC 2018 that 81 percent of devices are powered by its iOS 11 mobile OS, which means a 5 percent growth in only five weeks.

iOS 11 could still reach 100% before iOS 12 hits the streets

The 5 percent growth iOS 11 saw in the last month is due to the fact that Apple released the iOS 11.4 software update with two of the most anticipated features, AirPlay 2 and Messages in iCloud. However, Apple is now working on the iOS 11.4.1 point release, and we believe it won't stop there. Even if the company announced iOS 12 at WWDC 2018, the final release is expected in mid-September.

iOS 12 has a long road ahead until it hits the streets this fall, so we expect iOS 11 continue to receive some love from Apple, which means that it has every chance to reach 100% adoption just before the final release of iOS 12. According to Apple's App Store statistics page, which was measured on May 31, 2018, iOS 10 is now running on 14 percent of devices, down 5 percent from April 22, 2018.

Unfortunately, 5 percent of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices that were signed into the iOS App Store during the measured period still run a previous iOS release that Apple no longer supports. At WWDC 2018, Apple even dared to compare the 81 percent adoption rate of iOS 11 with the 5.7 percent adoption rate of Google's Android Oreo mobile operating system.
