Company confirms Bendgate is happening on iPad Pro

The Bendgate saga is about to receive a new sequel, as Apple has recently confirmed that the 2018 iPad Pro can indeed bend in certain conditions.

And yet, this time the company says it’s not a defect, and you should by no means be worried that the performance of the device would be affected.

iPhone 6 Plus is the device that invented what we call Bendgate today, and while in this case Apple acknowledged the problem and addressed it with an improved chassis on the iPhone 6s Plus, the company embraces a different approach for the 2018 iPad Pro.

In the last few weeks, several customers who purchased the 2018 iPad Pro said their devices were bent just out of the box or suffered from this while they were using the tablets.

Wi-Fi and LTE versions affected

While this isn’t clearly the behavior you’d normally expect from a premium Apple product, Cupertino told The Verge in a statement that this is nothing to worry about.

It’s actually a side effect of the manufacturing process, Apple says, so yes, the bending is perfectly normal, even if you notice it when unboxing the iPad Pro. Furthermore, the company explains that the bending shouldn’t worsen over time and the performance of the device is not in any way impacted.

By the looks of things, this feature-not-a-bug happens on both the iPad Pro with Wi-Fi and on the LTE version, though it’s apparently easier to notice on the latter.

Certainly, Apple confirming a manufacturing issue on one of its product happens just as the worst possible time, as many accuse the company of charging a premium for its devices without actually offering the value you’d normally expect. This is one of the reasons 2018 iPhones aren’t selling as expected, with preliminary data showing that their market performance is substantially slower than in the case of the previously-launched models.
