14 DAY TRIAL // Apple’s iPhone XR has recently received the FCC approval, which means it’s now just a matter of time until the device launches next month.
Apple requested the go-ahead from the FCC on September 6, just six days ahead of the September 12 press unveiling of the device, and now that this model has received the clearance, it can be launched in the United States.
iPhone XR will go up on pre-order on October 19, with shipments to begin a week later on October 26.
Best-selling 2018 iPhone?
iPhone XR isn’t only the most affordable iPhone in the 2018 device lineup, but also the model that Apple hopes would generate a super-cycle.
People familiar with the matter said the iPhone XR accounts for more than 50 percent of all orders placed by Apple at its suppliers, so the Cupertino-based tech giant expects the device to sell in high volumes after its October launch.
The $749 starting price in the United States could make it particularly appealing to owners of older iPhones, though it’s worth highlighting that iPhone XR comes with several cost-saving measures.
Despite running on the same hardware as the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR comes with an LCD screen instead of OLED and no longer boasts 3D Touch. Also, Touch ID has been removed as well, but just like the other two 2018 iPhones, it bets all-in on Face ID.
There’s just a single rear camera on the iPhone XR, whereas the more expensive models use a dual-camera configuration. However, iPhone XR is available in more color options in an approach that reminds of the iPhone 5c.
It remains to be seen how well the iPhone XR will sell when it launches next month, but for the time being, everyone seems to be very optimistic it’d become the best-selling 2018 model launched by Apple.
