Awarded with "Displays / Display Applications of the Year"

Society for Information Display (SID) announced on Tuesday that it awarded Apple's iPhone X and iPad Pro devices with the "Displays of the Year" and "Display Applications of the Year" awards ahead of the 23rd annual Display Industry Awards event.

During the 23rd annual Display Industry Awards event that will take place between May 20-25, 2018, at the Los Angeles Convention Center in the United States, Society for Information Display (SID) will grant the a few awards to several products for the most notable display technological features, innovative components that enhanced a display's performance. as well as innovative and outstanding applications of a display.

Among these, we can mention that Apple's iPad Pro display and Sharp's 70-inch 8K LCD TV won the "Displays of the Year" award, Continental Automotive's 3D Touch Surface, Kolon Industries' Colorless Polyimide (CPI) and Synaptics' optical in-display fingerprint sensor technologies won the "Display Components of the Year" award, and Apple's iPhone X and LG's UHD Crystal Sound OLED display won the "Display Applications of the Year" award.

"The iPhone X is the first product in Apple's iPhone series to fulfill the vision of a smartphone that is entirely screen, with no physical elements, keyboards or dedicated function buttons," said SID. The 5.8-inch Super Retina display features a resolution of 458 ppi and is the first OLED panel to match the standard set by prior iPhone generations, delivering striking colors, true blacks, a million-to-one contrast ratio and superior, system-wide color management."

Presented by Society for Information Display (SID), the 23rd annual Display Industry Awards event is one of the most anticipated events at the Display Week 2018, which will be hosted at the Los Angeles Convention Center in the United States between May 20 and May 25, 2018. The honorees announced today will be recognized on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, for their innovative displays, display components, and display applications.

The Chair of the Display Industry Awards Committee for SID Dr. Wei Chen believes that several of this year's winners will help drive the adoption of these new and innovative display technologies amongst smartphone manufactures in 2018 as well as throughout 2019. To win an award at the 2018 Display Industry Awards event, a product must have been available for purchase during entire 2017 year.
