“Local authorities will be alerted,” Apple tells looters

Apple is one of the companies whose stores have been targeted by looters during the protests in the United States, and needless to say, some devices, including iPhones, ended up being stolen.

And while looters might think they’re lucky to get an iPhone at absolutely no cost, it’s not that easy, as the Cupertino-based tech giant has the necessary tools to deal with the whole thing.

So what Apple is doing right now is disable the looted iPhones remotely, with a message that shows up on the screen telling thieves that the law enforcement would be alerted.

Furthermore, the company asks looters to bring back the iPhone to the Apple Store, albeit there’s a chance this isn’t really going to happen.

“Please return to Apple Walnut Street. This device has been disabled and is being tracked. Local authorities will be alerted,” the message that shows up on a stolen iPhone reads according to a report from the BBC.

At this point, it’s not clear how many iPhones were looted, but it’s very clear that Apple knows exactly how to fight back if its device end up in the wrong hands.

Apple supports the fight against racism

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced today that the company is donating to some organizations, “including the Equal Justice Initiative,” in an attempt to fight racism.

“To create change, we have to reexamine our own views and actions in light of a pain that is deeply felt but too often ignored. Issues of human dignity will not abide standing on the sidelines. To the Black community — we see you. You matter and your lives matter,” Tim Cook said in a public letter.

Apple hasn’t commented on its stores being looted or on the disabling of the iPhones stolen during the riots.
