Apple released today the fourth maintenance update to the tvOS 11 operating system for supported Apple TV devices, version 11.4, bringing various improvements, along with security and bug fixes.

Just like iOS 11.4, which was released earlier for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, the tvOS 11.4 software update brings AirPlay 2 to enable users to transform their Apple TV devices into speakers. Users can also use their voice to control AirPlay 2-enabled speakers from their Apple TV alongside their iPhone, iPad, and HomePod devices.

In addition, the AirPlay 2 functionality lets users control home audio system, as well as AirPlay 2-enabled speakers in their homes, and play in-sync music at the same time on multiple AirPlay 2-enabled speakers, including Apple TVs, which can be controlled from the iOS Control Center, Lock Screen or AirPlay controls within apps.

tvOS 11.4 now available for 4th generation Apple TV and Apple TV 4K devices

As expected, the tvOS 11.4 software update also fixes various bugs reported by users since the previous release and patches some security issues to provide users with a more reliable, stable and secure Apple TV experience. Details about the security issues fixed in tvOS 11.4 will be released by Apple shortly.

tvOS 11.4 (15L577) supports 4th generation Apple TV and Apple TV 4K devices, and it's available right now for users running tvOS 11.3 or an earlier version. The update can be downloaded through the OTA (Over-the-Air) updates by accessing the Settings app on your Apple TV, then go to the System section and access Software Updates.

Apple also released today the iOS 11.4 software update for supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, as well as the watchOS 4.3.1 software update for Apple Watch devices. All users are recommended to install the new software versions on their devices at their earliest convenience.
