Apple released today the first minor point release to its latest iOS 12 mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices, to fix various bugs and annoyances with the latest iPhone models.

Joining the tvOS 12.0.1 and watchOS 5.0.1 bugfix releases announced at the end of September, the iOS 12.0.1 bugfix release is here to address an issue for iPhone XS models where the devices won't immediatley charge when they are connected to the Lightning charging cable.

The iOS 12.0.1 software update also resolves an issue that could cause iPhone XS devices to reconnect on a 5Ghz Wi-Fi network at 2.4Ghz speeds instead of 5Ghz, restores the original position of the ".?123" key on the keyboard for iPad devices, and fixes a bug that could have made Bluetooth to become unavailable.

Also fixed is an issue for all iPhone and iPad devices where subtitles may not be displayed in various video playback apps. As expected, iOS 12.0.1 includes various security fixes, though Apple didn't publish any information about them at the moment of writing, so we'll update this story as soon as we know more.

How to install iOS 12.0.1 on your iPhone or iPad

The iOS 12.0.1 software update is now rolling out to all supported iPhone and iPad devices as builds 16A404 and 16A405 via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates. It's a recommended update for all users, but especially for iPhone XS owners, and can be installed by opening the Settings app and accessing Software Updates under General.

The update is small in size so it shouldn't take more than a few minute to be downloaded and installed on your devices. We recommend all users to update as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Apple works hard on the next big update, iOS 12.1, which promises more than 70 new emoji and group FaceTime video chat support.
