Apple has released iOS 14.4.2 to all supported iPhones out there, with the company explaining in the release notes that it includes “important security updates and is recommended for all users.”

iOS 14.4.2 is available for all iPhones that received the original iOS 14 operating system update, so it can be installed on the iPhone 6s and newer.

But at the same time, a security patch is also available for older iPhone models, including the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 as part of an update aimed at iOS 12. As a result, these devices should see iOS 12.5.2 now available for download in the software update section in settings.

According to the official update information, the new update resolves a glitch in WebKit that would allow a malicious website to launch an arbitrary cross-site scripting attack. But the worse thing is that Apple says it’s already of attacks based on this flaw out there in the wild, so in theory, some devices may have already been attacked.

What this means is that you need to update your iPhone as soon as possible to prevent the exploit from hitting your device too.

iOS 14.5 is also on the way

Apple is currently working on another major iOS update that could go live as soon as the next month. This time, iOS 14.5 would introduce several new important features, including support for unlocking an iPhone with a paired Apple Watch.

At the same time, the new iOS update would include support for incident reporting in Apple Maps, pretty much converting Apple’s navigation solution into a Waze rival.

iOS 14.5 is already in beta, so you can try it out in advance by downloading the early builds aimed at developers or public testers.
