Massive display upgrades planned by Apple

We’ve known for a while that Apple was cooking something big on the OLED front, and according to new information, this includes massive display upgrades for the iPad Pro and the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

More specifically, display analyst Ross Young said in tweets available only for his Super Followers that Apple is very likely to launch new 13-inch MacBook Air and iPad Pro models with OLED screens.

However, in case you’re very excited about this display upgrade, don’t be. As it turns out, the company isn’t necessarily in a rush to release the new models, as the launch of both devices is expected to take place at some point in 2024.

In other words, everything could change overnight, so if something goes wrong and Apple isn’t yet ready for the OLED revolution, the whole strategy could be pushed back indefinitely without users even knowing about it.

New MacBooks in 2023

Elsewhere, famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo seems to believe that Apple is going to launch a new 15-inch MacBook next year, with no upgrade for the 12-inch MacBook apparently in the works.

“Prediction updates: 1. New 15" MacBook would go to mass production in mid-1H23, and launch date may be 2Q23 or later. 2. New 15" MacBook may offer two CPU options, M2 (with 35W adapter) & M2 Pro (with 67W adapter). 3. I haven't heard of any plans for rumored 12" MacBook yet,” he said in a recent tweet.

Once again, everybody should just take these tidbits with a healthy dose of skepticism, as these plans can easily change overnight if something doesn’t go as planned. One thing is for sure, though. The transition to OLED will still happen sooner or later, so right now, it all appears to be just a matter of when rather than if.
