Cupertino releases new ads to convince users to switch

Apple has published a couple of new iPhone ads, and this time the company is going after Android users in an attempt to convince them to switch to its own ecosystem.

Cupertino has made it a hobby to make fun of Android every once in a while, and the ads rolled out today highlight the difference in terms of security between the App Store and the Google Play Store.

In one of the 15-second ads, Apple highlights the iPhone’s capability to take portrait photos, though this time the company doesn’t specifically mention Android as the worse rival, but a generic phone. Without a doubt, however, Apple’s target here is Android, especially as it’s believed that the number of users who switched to iOS lately has declined substantially.

Android, the king of mobile platforms

And while these ads are indeed hilarious, they actually hide Apple’s desperate attempt to bring more users to iOS, as Android not only that is currently the leading mobile platform, but it also increases its market share substantially every month.

Data provided by Kantar shows that in the three months ending in December 2017, Android was the number one choice in China with 71.2 percent of the sales, while iOS was far behind with 28.6 percent. The same thing in the United States, only that in this case the difference wasn’t so significant, with Android beating iOS with 55.3% versus 43.9%,

These figures are surprising especially because quarter included the launch of the iPhone X, Apple’s anniversary model that comes with an OLED display and Face ID facial recognition.

Sales of the iPhone X, however, have been well below expectations, and there are rumors that Apple could even stop production of this model to concentrate entirely on the 2018 generation. Nothing has been confirmed by Apple though.
