One of the highlights of the new Apple Watch Ultra is the support for diving, and while the device already comes with a Depth app to provide basic specifications, there’s no doubt that many people out there expected more advanced capabilities.

This is why Apple is now launching the so-called Oceanic+ app on the Apple Watch Ultra, essentially bringing the device closer to a dice computer.

Thanks to the new application, users are provided with a plethora of details, including information that comes in handy before diving.

“In the dive planner, users can set their surface time, their depth, and their gas, and Oceanic+ will calculate their No Deco (no-decompression) time — a metric used to determine a time limit for a diver at a certain depth. The planner also integrates dive conditions, including tides, water temperature, and even up-to-date information from the community, such as visibility and current,” the Cupertino-based tech giant explains.

“Post-dive, users will see data — including GPS entry and exit locations — automatically pop up on Apple Watch Ultra, along with a summary of their dive profile. The summary on the Oceanic+ iPhone app provides additional information, including a map of entry and exit locations, as well as graphs of depth, temperature ascent rate, and no-decompression limit.”

Needless to say, the app also comes with haptic feedback to make sure you feel the notifications underwater, and Apple says the whole thing should work like a charm even when wearing a wetsuit that is 7mm thick.

Also coming with a companion app available on the iPhone, Oceanic+ can be used for free if you are OK with the basic capabilities. However, for even more advanced features, including decompression tracking, tissue loading, the location planner, and an unlimited logbook capacity, Apple is also offering a $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year subscription plan.
