The best weather app for iPhone is no more

Apple has officially killed off Dark Sky, the weather app that so many people considered the absolute best choice on Apple devices.

After taking over the parent company, Apple decided to integrate the best Dark Sky features right into the Weather app that’s already available on iPhone, iPad, and macOS.

In other words, if you miss Dark Sky, Apple says that you should just stick with the native Weather app, and everything should be alright.

“Dark Sky’s features have been integrated into Apple Weather. Apple Weather offers hyperlocal forecasts for your current location, including next-hour precipitation, hourly forecasts for the next 10 days, high-resolution radar, and notifications. Apple Weather is available on devices running iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS 13 Ventura,” the company explains.

While the Dark Sky app was removed from the App Store last year, the app actually stopped working completely on January 1, so if you still have it on your iPhone, you should very well remove it completely.

Dark Sky can no longer refresh the data and download new forecasts, as Apple has shut down the servers, hoping that most people would switch to the Weather app.

And truth be told, there’s no reason not to, as the Weather app can now provide super-advanced information, including hyperlocal forecasts that should be more accurate for any location that you select on the map.

“Apple Weather forecasts are hyperlocal, down to 0.001° of latitude and longitude. This resolution is used to generate a forecast for not just your town, but also your block. It can also notify you when precipitation will start, down to the minute. You can even search and save your favorite locations. In the lower-right corner of the app, tap the location list button to start,” Apple explains.

If your iPhone, iPad, and Mac are up-to-date, the new Weather app should already be there with the integrated Dark Sky features.
