iPhone 13 projected to be announced this week

Apple is projected to take the wraps off the new iPhone 13 as soon as this week, and in a research note, reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo provides us with an early look at the storage versions to be introduced for the 2021 generation.

One of the biggest changes is the demise of the 64GB version on all iPhones, as Apple is upgrading the base configurations to 128GB.

This makes perfect sense given the operating system itself is also growing in size and users also store more photos and videos on their devices. As a result, offering more storage by default is the right way to go, despite Apple also betting big on cloud storage via iCloud.

Public launch this week

So according to Kuo, there will no longer be a 64GB version of the mini and the standard models, with the base model to now come with 128GB of storage.

The iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 will therefore be available in three different storage versions, namely 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.

On the other hand, the big news for those who needed more storage is that Apple is finally introducing a 1TB option, though this would only be available on the Pro and Pro Max models.

Customers buying an iPhone 13 Pro or an iPhone 13 Pro Max will get at least 128GB of storage, just like in the case of the more affordable models, though this time, there will be four different options in terms of storage. So upgraded models will come with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage.

Needless to say, an iPhone 13 with 1TB of storage will also be more expensive, though the full pricing information will be unveiled by Apple itself later this week as part of its dedicated hardware event. The device is projected to hit the shelves later this month.
