As the full focus will be on the new Apple Watch Pro

The next-generation Apple Watch will come with lots of changes, but at first glance, the all-new Pro model that will launch as a more rugged version will be the biggest star of the show.

And as it turns out, the Apple Watch Pro won’t just come with some exclusive upgrades but also produce additional changes in the Apple Watch lineup.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the Cupertino-based tech giant plans to kill off the Apple Watch Edition, pretty much because the full focus will be on the new Pro. Furthermore, the Apple Watch Pro is expected to cost around $1,000, which means another expensive version of the smartwatch doesn’t make much sense anymore.

Whether or not this is going to happen is something that remains to be true, but it’s pretty clear the upcoming Apple Watch Pro will receive a lot of love.

The device will come with a larger screen, a bigger battery, and a new body temperature sensor. It will be powered by the S8 chip, and while this could be disappointing for some, well, it’s a strategy that Apple will actually use on all new Apple Watch models launching in September.

The S8 will therefore live on for another generation, as Apple will only introduce smaller optimizations and refinements to improve power efficiency and performance. The S8 will also be used on the new-generation standard Apple Watch models launching alongside the Pro.

Gurman says the new Apple Watch Pro will also be fitted with a new low-power mode whose purpose is to enhance the battery life even further. This makes total sense, especially as the Apple Watch Pro is specifically supposed to allow for activity tracking, as the iPhone maker is apparently interested in turning its device into a direct competitor to Garmin.
