Texture waves goodbye to Windows 10 devices

Apple has recently released iTunes in the Microsoft Store to prove that it’s indeed willing to invest in the Windows 10 ecosystem, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that the firm wants to keep alive projects that don’t make sense in the long term.

This is the case of Texture, a magazine reading app which Apple purchased in March and which the company now removes from the Microsoft Store for a reason that wasn’t disclosed.

The app will go dark on June 30, and unsurprisingly, Texture says versions of Android, iOS, and Amazon Fire will remain in their stores.

“Texture is an all-access pass to the world’s best magazines. To keep things working smoothly, older versions of the app sometimes need to be retired. After June 30th, 2018, the Texture Windows app will no longer be available. Your Texture subscription will continue to be available on compatible phones or tablets running iOS or Android and on Fire HD tablets along with ongoing access to all the magazines you have selected as your favorites,” an announcement on the official website reads.

Small userbase

Before accusing Apple of becoming a Windows 10 hater, it’s important to know that Texture has rarely received updates in the Microsoft Store.

Therefore, there’s a good chance the app itself had a very small userbase, and for Apple, this is something that doesn’t align with its long-term strategy.

It’s not a secret that several apps published in the Microsoft Store failed despite their success on other platforms like Android and iOS, so it makes sense for developers, in this case, Apple, to reconsider their plans and focus on those operating systems where all users are.

Texture has also started notifying customers about the approaching end-of-support for the Windows 10 version and migrating to Android or iOS is the only solution available for each of them.
