Both the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs have been updated

Apple has updated its iMac line-up today with to boost the performance with the latest generation Intel processors and AMD Radeon Pro Vega graphics.

After the surprise announcement of the all-new 10.5-inch iPad Air and 9.7-inch iPad mini, Apple today announced that its 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs are getting a 2x performance boost by adding 8th Gen Intel quad-core and 6-core processors to the 21.5-inch iMac lineup, as well as 9th Gen Intel 6-core and 8-core processors to the 27-inch iMac lineup.

Additionally, Apple added powerful AMD Radeon Pro Vega graphics to both the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac lineups, which promise to deliver up to 80 percent faster graphics performance on the 21.5-inch iMac models and up to 50 percent faster graphics performance on the 27-inch iMac models. With the Radeon Pro Vega GPUs, Apple's iMacs are now ideal for professional video, graphics, and 3D content editing.

"Customers are going to love the huge boost in iMac performance. With up to 8-core processors and powerful Vega graphics, the iMac lineup is stronger than ever," said Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac Product Marketing. "With its stunning Retina display, amazing design, twice the performance, and macOS Mojave that our customers love, iMac is by far the best desktop in the world."

Pricing and availability

The updated 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac computers are available to order starting today from apple.com, as well as from the Apple Store app. Customers will also be able to purchase them from their local Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Resellers around the world starting next week. While the 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display starts at $1,299 USD, the 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display starts at $1,799 USD.

Apple reminds customers that the non-Retina display iMac lineup will continue to be available for sale for $1,099 USD. All new iMac models come with the latest macOS Mojave 10.14 operating system pre-installed, keyboard and mouse designed by Apple, and a sleek, 5 millimeter-thin aluminum and glass enclosure.
