Yet another year when Apple leads the charts

Apple is the top company in the most recent American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) determining the customer satisfaction ratings for household appliances and electronics in the United States.

Apple’s rating has remained unchanged from the previous year, so the Cupertino-based tech company is leading with 83 points, followed by rival Samsung with 82 points.

The leading spots are basically the same as in 2017, but this time Amazon has managed to secure the third place with a 3.8 percent increase from the previous year, getting an overall rating of 82 points this year, up from 79.

ASUS, which last year was third in the charts, fell 2.5 percent from 80 points to 79, becoming only the fifth company in terms of customer satisfaction in the United States.

ACSI says the drop is mostly the result of ASUS focusing more on high-end products, which in return has impacted its customer satisfaction rating.

“A step below the leaders, ASUS retreats 3% to 78. The Taiwanese multinational appears to be changing strategies by targeting the higher end of the market, but its users—largely gamers—are quite sensitive to price hikes. A 1% uptick for HP bumps it to 78, tied with ASUS. HP users are particularly pleased with its device accessories,” the research notes.

Microsoft still king of software

In terms of computer software, Microsoft is once again the leading name, with an increase of 4 percent from the previous year.

“Customer satisfaction with software for desktops and laptops is up 1.3% to 79. Microsoft climbs 4% to 79 on the strength of a successful Windows 10 upgrade cycle. Microsoft’s new approach to updates appears to be working better for users,” ACSI notes.

Apple uses to brag about customer satisfaction every time it takes the wraps off new products, so expect this data to be highlighted by the company itself very soon too.
