Apple announced today that it introduced a new WebKit API (Application Programming Interface) to allow web developers design websites for the edge-to-edge display of the iPhone X.

In its latest developer blog, Apple explains how the new WebKit API that's implemented in the latest iOS 11.2 beta 3 software update that the company seeded earlier today to developers and public beta testers alike, helps web designers build websites that take full advantage of the edge-to-edge display of the iPhone X smartphone.

iPhone X is Apple's 10th anniversary iPhone model, and it was launched worldwide on November 3, 2017. The device features a gorgeous edge-to-edge Super Retina AMOLED 5.8-inch display that will properly render any website you throw at it because Safari will automatically insert the content into the safe area, ditching the notch.

"If your website is designed with full-width horizontal navigation, you can choose to take full advantage of the edge-to-edge display by using a new WebKit API introduced in iOS 11.2," said Apple. "Start testing your website today with the iPhone X simulator, included with Xcode 9.2 beta."

To test your websites with the iPhone X display, you can use the iPhone X simulator in the Xcode 9.2 beta IDE (Integrated Development Environment), that if you don't already own an iPhone X. The final iOS 11.2 update is coming early next month for all supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, including iPhone X.
