During today's Google I/O conference, Google released the third beta version of its upcoming Android 10 (Q) mobile operating system for Pixel devices, as well as 15 other partner devices from 12 OEMs.

Android Q Beta 3 comes packed with numerous improvements and new features that early adopters may enjoy if they feel brave enough to enrol their devices into the Android Q Beta program. Apparently Google put a lot of effort lately to improve the privacy and security of its mobile OS, so it's no surprise that Android Q adds even more privacy and security features.

In Beta 3, Android Q now supports biometric authentications at a system level, gives users more control over when Android apps can access their location and to restrict app launches from the background, limits access to non-resettable device identifiers like serial number and IMEI, and randomizes the MAC address when connecting to different Wi-Fi networks.

"Today we also announced Project Mainline, a new approach to keeping Android users secure and their devices up-to-date with important code changes, direct from Google Play," said Dave Burke, VP, Engineering. "With Project Mainline, we’re now able to update specific internal components within the OS itself, without requiring a full system update from your device manufacturer."

Also new in Android Q Beta 3 is a system-wide dark theme that can be enabled in Settings > Display, richer notifications with smart replies, Live Caption, a new feature designed to automatically caption videos, podcasts, and audio messages playing on your device, a new fully gestural navigation mode, Focus Mode, a feature that helps you focus on things you want to get done, and Family Link, a new set of parental controls.

Android Q Beta 3 is now available for more than 15 devices

Google has made the Android Q Beta 3 release available not only on its supported Pixel devices, but also on 15 other devices from 12 OEMs, including ASUS, Essential, Huawei, LGE, Xiaomi, Nokia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Sony, TECNO, and Vivo, thanks to the company's amazing initiative called Project Treble, which aims to bring the latest Android versions to more devices from different manufactures.

If you want to give Android Q a try on your Pixel device, you can install the beta 3 version right now if you enrol into the Android Q Beta program. If you use one of the supported devices from the OEM partners mentioned above, you should check with them for instructions on how to install the latest Android Q Bet release.
