Android P is the next big thing in the evolution of Google’s mobile operating system, and according to a recent leak, it may see daylight in just a few weeks.

Reliable leakster @evleaks posted a hint as to when Android P could see daylight, indicating that August 20 may be the day that Google has chosen to unveil its new Android version.

While a confirmation in this regard is obviously missing, the August 20 date does align with the launch of the previous Android releases. For example, Android Nougat launched on August 22, while Android Oreo was announced on August 21. If the same trend is maintained, Android P could thus see daylight on August 20, while its successor may debut on August 19, 2019.

Pixel 3 XL coming with P pre-installed

As for what the P in the Android P stands for, there are several candidates for the time being, and people familiar with Google’s plans have until now released multiple suggestions in this regard.

While it was originally believed that the next Android version could be called Pistachio, others think there’s also a chance that Google goes for Pumpkin or Pie, both of which align with Google’s naming approach for the mobile operating system.

As it happens every year, Google’s own phones will be the first to get the new Android version, and the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL launching later this year in the fall will come with the new OS pre-installed.

Other Android models on the market will get the update in the following months, though as we all know already, some OEMs will need more time to prepare the release for their devices. One of them is Samsung, which has always been very slow to rolling out new Android updates to its phones, and it’s likely that the company’s flagships would only start receiving Android P sometime next year.
