Google released today the final release of the Android 9.0 Linux-based mobile operating system for all supported Google Pixel devices, finally revealing the codename of the Android P release as Pie.

Tailored for long-time and new Android users alike, the Android 9 Pie operating system release adapts to your needs every single day, learning your preferences and providing you with the best Android mobile experience possible. It comes with numerous new features and improvements that you can discover in the next paragraphs.

Here's what's new in Android 9 Pie

Highlights of the Android 9 Pie release include adaptive battery and brightness features that help you improve the battery life of your devices, new App Actions feature that makes Android adapt to your daily routine helping you be more productive, along with new Slices feature that shows you essential parts of your favorite apps.

The productivity improvements don't stop here as Android 9 Pie also brings new navigation gestures that let you more easily and quickly switch between apps. Furthermore, Android 9 Pie features App Timers to let you set time limits to apps, as well as a Wind Down feature that adds a greyscale to your device's screen, and an enhanced Do Not Disturb feature.

App Dashboard is another cool new feature of the Android 9 Pie release that fights phone addiction by letting you know how much time you spend in your apps, as well as to inform you how often you check your smartphone or tablet. Also, Android 9 Pie adds OCR support in  Camera View, audio boost settings in Accessibility, multi-camera support, and external camera support.

Last but not least, Android 9 Pie features support for devices with a display cutout a.k.a. notch, as well as support for devices with edge-to-edge screens and 18:9 or taller aspect ratios. For enterprise users, Android 9 Pie brings support for multiple users on dedicated devices, a new Work tab in the Launcher, and support for postponing OTA (Over-the-Air) updates.
