Issue reportedly happening on all Pixel models

Rushing to install new versions of apps and operating systems is something that a lot of people do despite the risks of coming across issues that eventually make them regret this decision.

This is exactly what happened in the case of Android 10, whose rollout started this week OTA for the Google Pixel and a series of other non-Google phones.

But as far as the Pixel is concerned, some owners learned the hard way that patience is a virtue.

The update to Android 10 takes hours to complete on some devices, and many think that the update process actually got stuck on the boot screen. Posts on Google’s support forums indicate that this behavior happens regardless of phone model, with a slow update process reported on the original Pixel, Pixel 2, Pixel 3, and even the new Pixel 3a.

How to fix the bug

The solution in most of the case is to wait until the process is complete, because even though it might appear to be stuck, the update eventually reaches 100 percent and the phone boots correctly.

“I experienced this on my P3 after it restarted but I waited patiently and it finally booted. I believe the trick is to wait as long as it takes. Force rebooting at this stage could corrupt files which could prevent the phone from booting again,” one user says on the forums.

On the other hand, as AndroidCentral notes, users can try to go back to Android Pie and then restart the update process to Android 10. This can be done by forcing a reboot several times or by heading over to the recovery mode with the power button + volume down key combo.

As an alternative, Pixel users who are very eager to install Android 10 on their devices can always turn to the official system images to sideload the new OS manually.
