None other than the iPhone 11, of course

If you expected an Android phone to be the number one device in the first half of 2020, you are definitely wrong, and new data comes to prove this.

Omdia has published new data for the smartphone market in the first six months of the year, and unsurprisingly, the number one model is none other than the iPhone 11.

Apple reportedly sold no less than 37.7 million iPhone 11 units, and this is a massive increase from the previous year when the iPhone XR took the leading spot with 26.9 million units.

So despite the difficult market that companies had to deal with because of the global health crisis, Apple someone managed to sell more units of the most affordable iPhone in the latest generation. In 2019, it was the iPhone XR, and this time it’s the iPhone 11. Both models, however, topped sales in a pretty dominant manner.

iPhone, the leader

Samsung took the runner-up spot both in 2019 and in 2020. While in the first half of the year the second best-selling smartphone was the Samsung Galaxy S10 with 13.4 million units, this time number 2 is the Galaxy A51 with 11.4 million units.

iPhone 11 isn’t the only Apple smartphone in the top 10. iPhone SE finished fifth with no less than 8.7 million units, so at first glance, Apple launching a new 4.7-inch model was quite a smart move. iPhone XR remained a strong seller with 8 million units, while the iPhone 11 Pro Max finished sixth with 7.7 million units.

Eventually, the iPhone 11 Pro was number 10 in the charts with total sales of 6.7 million units.

Apple is getting ready to launch new-generation iPhones in the fall, so it’ll be interesting to see phone sales for the second half of the year too.
