Honor 20 Pro does not receive Android certification

The US restrictions announced earlier this month against a series of Chinese companies, including Huawei, have just made the first victim.

The Honor 20 Pro, which was launched earlier this week with an ETA of July 2019 might never see daylight due to the lack of Android certification.

According to 01net and WinFuture, not having the Android certification means the Honor 20 Pro can’t make its way to European markets with Google’s operating system, services, and apps. On the other hand, it can go on sale in China, where Google apps aren’t available in the first place, but it’s pretty clear this means it’d only experience low sales.

However, it looks like the standard Honor 20 that Huawei announced during the same event actually received Android certification, so there’s a chance the Chinese company is still working with Google on including the Pro in the deal as well.

US restrictions against Huawei

Of course, there’s not much Google can do about it, as the US restrictions block American companies from working with Huawei on new projects.

According to the order signed by President Trump earlier this month, Huawei is banned from receiving access to software and hardware belonging to American companies.

A 90-day suspension to the ban was announced earlier this week in order to allow US firms to make other adjustments, but also to give Huawei more time to ship updates to existing devices. However, the Chinese company isn’t allowed to purchase technology, be it software or hardware, from American companies for the launch of new products.

At this point, neither Huawei nor Google commented on what happened with the Honor 20 Pro, but for the time being, this just seems to be the beginning of Huawei’s biggest fear.
