A new survey conducted by Piper Sandler on 9,800 teens shows that the iPhone remains an incredibly popular device in this age category, with most of the respondents claiming that their next smartphone is likely to be an Apple smartphone.

We’ve known for a while that iPhones are super-popular among teens, and this new survey indicates that the Apple device is reaching new records in this age segment.

No less than 86 percent of the teens said they already own an iPhone, while a total of 89 percent claimed their next smartphone to be an iPhone. These are both all-time survey highs, Piper Sandler emphasizes, so if the same trend is maintained, it could reach 90% in the next 12 months.

The survey also shows that TikTok, the social network that U.S. President Donald Trump wanted to ban, is currently the second most-used in the country after Snapchat.

Four iPhones coming this year

But the research firms says it also noticed a change in teens’ approach regarding social justice.

“One distinguishing feature of GenZ is that they are a generation that cares about social justice. Racial Equality/Black Lives Matter and the Environment are their top current issues. With Environment at the forefront of their minds, we are seeing an uptick of teens “thrifting” or shopping secondhand. We believe this will be a very important trend to watch in the future,” said Erinn Murphy, Piper Sandler senior research analyst.

As for the iPhone, all these teens are in for a big surprise later this month. Apple will announce four different models this year, including an all-new 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini that could be available at a lower price. All devices will come with 5G support, and people familiar with the matter said that a charger would no longer be included in the box in an attempt to keep the price at a lower level.
