14 DAY TRIAL // AMD has just released new Radeon drivers that bring support for Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809).
The new version, 18.10.1, is the first one to fully support the new Windows 10 feature update, despite the fact that the update itself is currently blocked. Microsoft has pulled the update due to bugs causing data loss on a number of systems.
In addition, the updated graphics drivers also include Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 support, and fixes a number of issues, including bugs hitting high-performance systems. As explained in the official release notes:
“System configurations with 16+ CPU cores may experience a random system reboot during installation when upgrading Radeon Software from a version older than RSAE 18.8.1.”
Bugs in Windows 10 version 1809
While the new driver comes with full support for Windows 10 October 2018 Update, this doesn’t mean everything would work exactly flawlessly after installing it.
AMD says in the known issue section of the release that it’s still aware of problems experienced on version 1809, and some could lead to game crashes after the update.
“When using Radeon Overlay on system configurations with the latest Windows 10 October 2018 Update some users may experience intermittent instability or game crashes,” the company explains.
Furthermore, this particular driver version is also likely to cause lag or stutter when dragging Microsoft Office applications.
Windows 10 version 1809 is no longer up for grabs temporarily, but Microsoft has already developed a fix for the file deletion bug. A new build has been shipped to Slow and Release Preview ring insiders for testing and the rollout could resume for all users across the world shortly.
In the meantime, you are recommended to deploy the latest AMD Radeon drivers, especially if you plan to upgrade to version 1809 when Microsoft gives the go-ahead for this release once again.
