This could be Samsung’s upcoming A8s design

In its struggle to stay away from notches, Samsung is exploring several design approaches, including drilling holes in the screens in order to bundle all front-facing parts right under the glass.

The South Korean firm has recently teased a potential Galaxy A8s that could be based on such an idea, and by the looks of things, the company is getting closer towards making this real.

An alleged leak making the rounds right now shows what it’s believed to be a Galaxy A8s screen protector, which in its turn provides us with an early look at the design of the screen.

As you can see in the photo attached to the article, there’s a hole at the top of the screen which seems to indicate this is the place where the front-facing camera is located. Since the hole is surrounded by screen area, this doesn’t seem to be a notch, but rather a camera embedded right into the display.

Possible unveiling in the coming months

Oddly enough, there are no other holes for the rest of the front-facing modules, like the earpiece or the speaker, so there’s a chance that Samsung may move these to the top and bottom edges of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy A8s could serve as the testing model for the upcoming Galaxy S10 flagship, which could use the same design based on holes drilled into the screen. Furthermore, rumor has it that Samsung may embed the fingerprint sensor into the glass too, though there are mixed speculations on this.

The Galaxy S10 is projected to go live in early 2019, but in the meantime, the Galaxy A8s could get the green light as well.

It’ll be interesting to see if this design approach is what Samsung is going after, but for the time being, a certain amount of skepticism is recommended too. We’ll find out more in the coming weeks as more leaks are expected.
