The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup, which is projected to see the daylight in late January and then go on sale in February, will come with a glass back.

This is according to famous leakster Ice Universe, who revealed on Twitter that the South Koreans plan to use a glass back on absolutely all models that are part of the new generation.

This is notable for several reasons, but the biggest change is that even the base model, which will be called Galaxy S22, will come with a glass back. Previously, Samsung used what it called glasstic on the cheapest model, mostly in attempt to cut the costs and make the device more durable.

Glasstic is just plastic that looks like glass thanks to a glossy finish, and needless to say, it’s indeed tougher as compared to glass. However, it goes without saying that the glass is a more premium material, and Samsung apparently wants to use it on all models launching next month.

Launch next month

Samsung obviously hasn’t shared any information on the Galaxy S22 lineup, as the company wants to keep all details secret until the Unpacked event takes place in January.

In the meantime, the South Korean phone maker has another thing to be focused on, as the company is getting ready to take the wraps off the Galaxy S21 FE at CES, also next month.

The Galaxy S21 FE was originally supposed to launch earlier this year, but the component shortage has convinced the company to push it back for as long as possible, essentially bringing its debut close to the one of the Galaxy S22.

The company has also remained tight-lipped on what materials the Galaxy S21 FE is going to use, but most likely, the back will use glasstic as well.
