14 DAY TRIAL // Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies is the brand-new signature mode that's part of Black Ops code DNA, Zombies. It features a four-person co-op mode and comes with a new narrative and a cast of characters. Zombies includes new ways to progress, classic fan-favorite perks, and an arsenal of Cold War weaponry that should help players survive the legions of undead.
There's a deep story behind Black Ops' new Zombies mode, which starts with the “Die Maschine” map that takes place in the early '80s. As part of Requiem, a CIA-backed international response team led by Grigori Weaver from the original Black Ops story, operatives explore a World War II bunker.
While Requiem team members investigate what lies beneath the bunker, a Soviet-led division and rival to Requiem, the Omega Group, joins the fray. Between these two factions, there are plenty of characters who may help or hinder your journey, while others have separate, unknown agendas that will be up to you to discover.
Gameplay-wise, the new Zombies mode in Black Ops Cold War will feature cross-play and cross-gen. Also, players will now advance through the Battle Pass with time played in Zombies, similar to multiplayer and Call of Duty: Warzone. In addition, Requiem team members can also start the match with their gunsmith-crafted weapon of choice via loadout support.
The Pack-a-Punch feature is making a comeback, but all weapons will now have a rarity associated with them, so the higher the rarity, the greater the damage output and attachments for the weapon. This means that any weapon in the game will be sustainable in later rounds, which should add more variety and fun to finding new weapons through Wall Buys and the Mystery Box.
There's a bunch of other gameplay mechanics revealed by developer Treyarch, including field upgrades, equipment crafting, perks, and exfil. The latter is a new option that lets players who die to escape with their lives when they're feeling overrun. If the whole squad is in trouble, the option to exfiltrate the undead combat zone via helicopter will become available.
Those who pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be able to access the game's Zombies mode earlier. During October 8-9, early access will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4, while between October 10-12 everyone will be able to try out the new mode on Sony's platform.
Between October 15-16, players who pre-ordered the game will have access to the Zombies mode on Xbox One and PC, while PlayStation 4 players will benefit from open access during the same period. Finally, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies will be open to all platforms (cross-play) between October 17-19.
