Microsoft has recently shipped the August 2022 Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11 (WSA) update, and of course, the new version comes with lots of good news.

The update brings WSA to version 2206.40000.15.0, and it comes with lots of new settings to add compatibility for games with joysticks and gamepads. Furthermore, Microsoft says it has including compatibility for aiming and sliding in games with arrow keys.

Needless to say, Microsoft has also included several smaller fixes, including the following:

  • Scrolling improvements
  • Networking improvements
  • Android minimum window size defaulted to 220dp
  • Improved dialog when unsupported VPN is detected
  • New toggle to view/save diagnostic data in the Windows Subsystem for Android Settings app
  • Security updates
  • General reliability fixes, including improvements to diagnostic sizes
  • Graphics improvements

As it typically happens when such updates go live, Microsoft has also acknowledged one issue, explaining that in some cases, users could end up encountering VPN problems with Advanced Networking.

“Some VPNs may not work with Advanced Networking. If you use a VPN and find Android apps do not have network connectivity, please disable Advanced Networking in the Windows Subsystem for Android Settings app,” the company explains.

Unfortunately, all the goodies mentioned above continue to be available exclusively for users in the United States, though they are live in all Windows Insider channels.

WSA on Windows 11 is one of the biggest new features announced by Microsoft in its operating system, as it allows users to run Android apps on their desktops without the need for third-party software like BlueStacks.

Of course, Microsoft is working around the clock on polishing the experience even further, so for instance, a previous WSA update brought support for Android 12.1, as well as better integration in the operating system, with the Windows taskbar now showing which Android apps are using the microphone and the location.
