Following the news from all across the globe, you must have come across some information regarding last month's Kenya elections and the protests and riots that erupted when the results were finally released. As you might have gathered, they weren't the satisfactory ones for a lot of people and that led to several hundred Kenyans getting killed and more than 350 thousand being forced to leave their homes.

The two main political adversaries were the former and actual president Mwai Kibaki and the opposition leader Raila Odinga. The fight between the two camps was unfair and it went down to tribal warfare before Kibaki decided to use the power he was invested with and squash the protests under the cape of the savior. Today saw Odinga calling for rallies in 42 locations nationwide and by that exposing many others to unnecessary violence.

The YouTube Channel that NTV Kenya, the country's biggest broadcaster, created a month before the elections has seen every type of violence recorded and uploaded afterwards and despite the fact that only 1 percent of the population affords broadband Internet access, it is one of the most viewed channels on Google's video sharing service. It has over three thousand subscribers and it embodies the best means for the Kenyans abroad to stay connected to what's going on back home.

Except for documenting the death and violence the country is going through, the channel also broadcasts the efforts that many international communities go through to help the nation stay together through these rough times.

Some additional channels have been opened by organizations like the National Democratic Institute, a global non profit that provides election assistance in Kenya and other fledgling democracies. It features a video that I've embedded below that shows just how eager the Kenyans were to cast their votes on the 27th of December 2007. Now seeing that makes you kind of wonder about those results, doesn't it?
