Only in the new Yahoo Mail

In case you're still using the classic version of Yahoo Mail, switch now. You have to see this. The new Yahoo Mail comes with lots of Liam animations which can improve your mail reading experience but some of the users find them really annoying. Maybe you don't know what Liam is. Well, Liam is actually Mail but because the Sunnyvale company was looking for a name for that tiny person who animates the screen, it decided to be something relevant for the mail technology. Liam is not a feature of Yahoo Mail because it is only an animation which can make you smile when it breathes fire or runs across the screen.

Ryan, Community Manager at Yahoo Mail, wrote on the official blog of the service that only the consumers who received the new Yahoo Mail can see the animations. "For you folks out there that are already in the New Mail, you may have noticed a slightly increased dose of Liam. No longer confined by the limits of JPGs or GIFs, we now get to experience FLASH Liam. Anyway, sprinkled around the new Mail are a bunch of Liam animations. You might see him sling-shotting himself across the screen, or breathing fire. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled!" the Yahoo representative wrote in the post.

So, if you're one of the lucky guys who received the new Yahoo Mail but you're not able to see Liam, check if the Flash Player is correctly installed on your computer.

As I've said before, some of the users are pretty annoyed by Liam and consider that it is one of the elements that should be removed from the Mail's interface and replaced with something really useful. "Instead of screwing around with cartoon figures, perhaps you should focus on making real improvements. (Did you not receive the peanut butter manifesto?). One helpful enhancement would be "categories" for the new Yahoo! address book," a user wrote in the comments posted on Yahoo's blog.
